Nicolo Bulega Signs Contract as Ducati MotoGP Test Rider for 2026

Nicolo Bulega, the current leader of the World Superbike (WorldSBK) championship, has signed a contract to join Ducati's MotoGP test team for the 2026 season. This move positions him alongside established test rider Michele Pirro, as Ducati prepares for significant regulatory changes in 2027. Bulega's ascent in the motorcycle racing world has been marked by a series of impressive performances, including a standout debut in WorldSBK, where he secured multiple victories and currently leads the championship standings.

In a statement regarding his new role, Bulega expressed his gratitude and excitement. "I am very happy to take on the role of Ducati test rider for MotoGP. It is a part of a dream come true because there are not many riders who are given the chance to try the Ducati Desmosedici GP. This is an important goal for my life that I achieve, and I will try to make the most of this opportunity to gain further experience in the Ducati world," Bulega stated. His commitment to WorldSBK remains evident as he aims to defend the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati colors while also contributing to the development of the Desmosedici GP.

Ducati's strategy appears to be twofold: to enhance their competitive edge in MotoGP while simultaneously nurturing Bulega's potential for a full-time switch in the future. Davide Tardozzi, the team manager for Ducati Lenovo, highlighted Bulega's importance to the team's future plans. He noted, "Nicolo is a Ducati rider, a Ducati Aruba rider, but in the end, someone we're looking at for the future. We trust him and maybe we’ll have some more collaboration in the future."

As the MotoGP landscape evolves with the introduction of new regulations and a change in tire supplier from Michelin to Pirelli in 2027, Bulega's experience with Pirelli tires will play a crucial role in adapting the Desmosedici GP to these changes. Gigi Dall’Igna, Ducati Corse’s General Manager, praised Bulega’s talent and potential, stating, "Nicolo represents a winning bet for the Ducati Corse project... This new role is a further incentive for him to improve and grow as a rider."

Bulega’s journey through the ranks of motorcycle racing has been marked by significant achievements. After winning the 2015 JuniorGP™ Championship, he transitioned through Moto3™ and Moto2™, ultimately finding success in WorldSSP before joining the factory WorldSBK team. His performance has garnered attention, positioning him as a rising star within the Ducati family.

As the 2025 season progresses, Bulega will continue to be a focal point for Ducati as they monitor his performance both in WorldSBK and during MotoGP test sessions. His dual commitment as a test rider and a championship contender will undoubtedly keep him among the busiest riders in the sport. The next 18 months will be pivotal for Bulega as he aims to solidify his place in the elite ranks of motorcycle racing while contributing to Ducati's future successes in MotoGP.
