Sir Chris and Lady Sarra Hoy Honored with Freedom of the City of London

Sir Chris Hoy and Lady Sarra Hoy have been awarded the Freedom of the City of London in recognition of their significant charitable contributions, particularly in the realms of cancer awareness and neonatal care. The couple received this prestigious honor during a ceremony at The Mansion House, the Lord Mayor's official residence, on Thursday, which underscores their commitment to philanthropy and public service.

Sir Chris Hoy, a celebrated British track cyclist, is renowned for his remarkable achievements, including six Olympic gold medals, 11 world championships, and 34 World Cup titles. His illustrious career culminated in his retirement from competitive racing in 2013 and his knighthood in the 2008 New Year Honours List after his success at the Beijing Olympics. Reflecting on the honor, Sir Chris expressed gratitude, stating, "London will always have a very special place in my heart, being the flag-bearer at the 2012 Olympic Games is an experience that will stay with me forever. It is a great honour to receive the Freedom of the City; thank you."

Lady Sarra Hoy, an ambassador for Bliss, a UK charity focused on supporting premature and sick babies, also expressed her heartfelt appreciation for being recognized for her charity work. The couple's son, Callum, was born prematurely at 29 weeks, weighing just 2lbs 2oz, which further fueled their commitment to neonatal care initiatives.

The nomination for the Freedom of the City was made by Lord Mayor of London Alastair King and Caroline Haines, chair of the City of London Corporation's Epping Forest and Commons Committee.
