Tazmin Brits Achieves Career-High Rankings in Women's Cricket

In a remarkable achievement for South African cricket, Tazmin Brits has reached new heights in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's T20I and ODI Batting Rankings, following an impressive performance during the recent tour of the West Indies. As of June 24, 2025, the 34-year-old opener is now ranked sixth in the T20I rankings and 21st in the ODI rankings, both career-best placements for the athlete.

Brits, who equaled her career-best position in the T20I rankings, garnered significant recognition after scoring 132 runs over three matches in the T20I series, which included a standout performance of 98 not out in the opening match. This performance not only propelled her two spots higher in the rankings but also underscored her consistent form since first reaching sixth place in January 2024, where she maintained a strong position until November of that year.

In the ODI format, Brits' rise is equally impressive, moving up six spots after scoring a match-winning 101 in the final ODI against the West Indies, contributing to South Africa's 2-1 victory in the series. Her performances have not only showcased her individual talent but also enhanced South Africa's standing in women's cricket on the international stage.

The ICC rankings also reflect advancements among Brits' teammates. Annerie Dercksen has moved up in the T20I rankings from 87th to 79th, while Nonkululeko Mlaba has climbed to joint-eighth in the bowling rankings following her three wickets during the series.

On the other hand, the West Indies captain, Haley Matthews, has made significant strides, earning a career-best 770 rating points, thereby narrowing the gap with Australia’s Beth Mooney, who currently leads with 794 points. Matthews was named Player of the Series for her contributions of 147 runs and two wickets across the three matches.

Additionally, other West Indies players have seen upward movement in the rankings, including Chinelle Henry, who climbed three places to 86th, and leg-spinner Afy Fletcher, who advanced to 12th with five wickets in the series. In the ODI Bowling Rankings, South African players Marizanne Kapp, Mlaba, and Masabata Klaas have also achieved notable gains, further emphasizing the competitive nature of women's cricket.

The latest rankings highlight the growing prominence of women's cricket globally, emphasizing the need for continued support and development within the sport. As players like Tazmin Brits continue to break records and achieve personal milestones, the future of women’s cricket looks promising, with increasing visibility and recognition on the international stage.
