World Netball Unveils New Strategy for Biennial World Cup and Men’s Competition

World Netball (WN) has announced a transformative global events strategy aimed at enhancing the visibility and competitiveness of netball worldwide. This development, which was revealed on June 18, 2025, includes the decision to hold its flagship event, the Netball World Cup (NWC), every two years starting in 2027, and to establish a men’s NWC to expand the sport's reach and inclusivity.

The changes follow WN’s recent initiatives to modernize the format of the NWC, including the introduction of additional competitions such as Cup and Plate tournaments. According to Fiona Harold, CEO of World Netball, these adjustments are designed to create a consistent international calendar that aligns with the needs of members, fans, media partners, and commercial stakeholders. "International netball has never been more competitive, but the landscape is becoming increasingly complex to navigate," Harold stated. "WN needs to support its Members and deliver solutions that mean everyone in the ecosystem benefits."

Historically, the NWC has been held every four years since its inception in 1963, but this new biennial format aims to foster more frequent and meaningful competition among the best players globally. Harold emphasized that the shift allows for greater engagement and the cultivation of rivalries, essential for expanding netball's appeal in new markets.
