UN Chief Urges Global Action to Prevent 'Wild West' Oceans

At the opening of the UN Oceans Conference in Nice, France, UN Secretary General António Guterres issued a stark warning against the unregulated exploitation of the high seas, emphasizing that the oceans cannot become a 'Wild West.' His remarks coincide with growing global concern over deep-sea mining, particularly the extraction of critical minerals from seabed metallic nodules, which poses significant environmental risks.
