BBC Sounds Unveils 'Mad for Oasis': A New Series Celebrating the Band's Legacy

In a significant cultural development, BBC Sounds has announced the launch of a new ten-part series titled "Mad for Oasis," set to premiere on July 1, 2025. The series, hosted by Anais Gallagher, daughter of Oasis co-founder Noel Gallagher, aims to explore the enduring influence of one of Britain’s most iconic rock bands, coinciding with their much-anticipated reunion performance this summer.
"Mad for Oasis" is produced by BBC Local teams based in Manchester and promises to delve into the personal stories of fans whose lives have been profoundly impacted by the band’s music. According to Anais Gallagher, the series is a unique opportunity to share the heartfelt narratives of fans who have connected with Oasis on a deeply personal level. "Oasis have always been a big part of my life. But to have the opportunity to hear these incredible stories from people about how their music has impacted their lives has been amazing. I’m thrilled to be a part of it," she stated.
The series features contributions from committed fans, such as Paul Fellows, an Oxford-based artist who was inspired by Oasis's music to create artwork that supports Great Ormond Street Hospital. He expressed the transformative power of the band's influence, stating, "Oasis have had a massive influence on my life. If someone came up to me in the field of Knebworth and said in 25 years' time, you’re going to meet him on stage and raise money for a great cause, I would never have believed it!" His art has not only celebrated the band but has also been instrumental in raising funds for children’s health care.
Another poignant testimony comes from Karen, a devoted fan from New Ross, Ireland, who has cherished Oasis’s music throughout her life. She recounted how one of their songs helped bridge the gap in her relationship with her mother, who suffered from dementia. "An Oasis song helped me connect with my mother in a way I never thought I’d be able to again. Happy or sad, it will always be a massive part of me," she said. This illustrates the deep emotional resonance that Oasis's music has for many individuals.
Additionally, Manchester-based artist Stanley Chow was commissioned to create exclusive artwork for the series, reflecting the vibrant culture surrounding Oasis. Chow expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "I’m thrilled to have been asked to work on the series cover. I had so much fun researching the illustration. It’s a lovely thing to be part of!"
Chris Burns, Head of Local Audio Commissioning at the BBC, emphasized the significance of the series in capturing the essence of local life and the impact of music on communities. "Whether it’s your favourite band reuniting, your football team winning or losing, our BBC teams live and breathe the rollercoaster of local life with our audiences. BBC Radio Manchester really gets to the heart of how this local band made its mark upon ordinary people’s lives and is told fantastically through Anais,” Burns stated.
The series not only highlights the band's musical legacy but also underscores the social connections and personal stories that have emerged from their music. As Oasis prepares for their reunion, "Mad for Oasis" promises to be a heartfelt tribute to a band that continues to shape the lives of many.
The first episode of "Mad for Oasis" will be available for streaming on BBC Sounds starting July 1, 2025, inviting listeners to revisit their memories and celebrate the impactful legacy of Oasis, a band that has left an indelible mark on the music scene and its fans worldwide.
