Disciplinary Actions Update: Feyi-Waboso Suspended, Woki Faces Hearing

In a significant disciplinary update, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso of England has been suspended for two matches, while Cameron Woki of France is set to face a disciplinary committee on Tuesday. This comes after a Foul Play Review Committee (FPRC) assessed the red cards issued to both players during their match on June 21, 2025, at the Allianz Stadium.

The FPRC, chaired by Christopher Quinlan KC, an Independent Judicial Panel Chairman, included former international referee Donal Courney from Ireland and former South African international player Stefan Terblanche. The committee evaluated the incidents under the expedited off-field sanction process, a new protocol implemented to streamline disciplinary actions during the July test window. This process allows sanctions to be proposed in accordance with Appendix 1 of Regulation 17 without the presence of players or their representatives, although players can submit written statements for consideration.

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso received a two-match suspension after the FPRC determined his actions violated Law 9.13, which pertains to dangerous tackles. The initial recommendation was for a three-match suspension; however, it was reduced to two matches contingent upon the successful completion of the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme. Feyi-Waboso accepted the ruling and will miss the upcoming matches against Argentina on July 5 and July 12, but will be eligible to play against the USA on July 19 if he completes the programme successfully.

In contrast, Cameron Woki's case has been escalated to a disciplinary committee following the FPRC’s decision. The hearing is scheduled for June 24, 2025, and will provide an opportunity for a full examination of the circumstances surrounding Woki’s red card.

This update highlights the ongoing efforts by World Rugby to maintain player safety and uphold the sport's integrity. The new expedited sanction process aims to address incidents promptly, allowing for more effective management of player conduct. The measures reflect a broader commitment by World Rugby to enhance player welfare and minimize risks associated with dangerous play.

World Rugby's regulations are designed to ensure that all players adhere to the principles of fair play. As the sport evolves, the governing body continues to adapt its policies to uphold safety standards while fostering competitive fairness.
